Due to the recent earthquakes at Meteora, several rocks have fallen from the main pillars. Because of that and until the seismic activity ends, it is recommended to stay off the trails, because there may be loose rocks on the overhanging pillars, which may fall with a new earthquake.
This is especially true for the following trails, which should be avoided:
- M6: Kalampaka Byzantine Church – Holy Trinity Monastery Trail
- M8: Kastraki old Aqueduct – Monastery of Roussanou Trail
- M9: Fairy Fountain – Kastraki Old Aqueduct Trail
- M10: Small Walls – Holy Trinity Base Trail
- M11: Small Walls – Meteora Observation Deck Trail
- M12: Kalampaka Byzantine Church – Meteora Digital Projection Center Trail
- M13: Varlaam Monastery – Kastraki Old Aqueduct Trail
The following trails are considered safer, as there are not many overhanging pillars, although it is recommended to be very careful on some spots:
- M1: Doupiani – Ypapanti Trail – be very careful at the beginning, where you pass between two pillars, and when you encounter the monastery of Ypapanti
- M2: Ypapanti – Varlaam Trail – please do not walk near the edge of the cliffs
- M3: Ypapanti – Vlachava Top Trail – this is a mountainous trail, so it should be safe
- M4: Vlachava Top – Varlaam Monastery Trail – this a mountainous trail, so it should be safe
- M5: Vlachava Top – Meteora Observation Deck Trail – this a mountainous trail, so it should be safe
- M7: Holy Trinity – Kalampaka Highschool Trail – this a mountainous trail, so it should be safe
Please exercise caution while hiking/running/biking on all footpaths, as their current condition is unknown.
